Oh, skein. I did actually read that, but it didn't mention getting rid of the forum...

That makes sense, really. Did the thread for introductions stick around?

Let's trial it for the time being having no dedicated newb threads or forums. :|

Having these in the first place was my idea  . When the GlamRock.com forums started, the software driving them wasn't as extensively used as say pHpBB and vBulletin but thanks to Wordpress, bbPress has both exploded in use and improved in userfriendliness. The purpose of Newb threads/forums was to get people used to driving the interface, especially when the site was in startup mode.

Some newbs got pissed off because some were officially welcomed and they were overlooked  . That's been a downside...for valuable community members such as Retroman to be the doorman when he has for more to contribute. :D

In hindsight, the newb forum ran a year longer than it should have. 8O

With the newbies thread, of the newbs that posted, around 90% never posted again. If a newb has just one post to make, wouldn't it be better if they provided an ounce of insight on a Motley or a hamburger thread instead of saying just fucking saying 'hi'.....?

Hah, you make an excellent point.
I'm glad it was closed down, then, I guess :D

I know, as well, quite normally, if I join a site with a welcome forum, I wait for my welcome before I start using the site -- like knocking on the door. And since here its unreasonable to welcome everyone, I'm sure it drives a lot of members away.

    Good stuff :)

Yeah, I was usually the only person to welcome the newbies but as I can't be around all the time, members get missed. I guess I kept the forum going when it was quiet and now it's picked up again!!!
