I don't know exactly where a thread like this goes.....

Heres whats on my mind.Several bands come to mind but one beloved band especially. How do people feel about bands (not venues) selling 1st and 2nd row seats for one thousand dollars apiece....the only perk being, a hug, handshake and autographed photo?

And...what might one expect, for the privilege of plunking down that much cash?????

I would welcome various sides on this before I say what I gotta say on this....

It's really just plain old marketing.
In the old days when we were younger, we would wait outside the backstage of venues and in hotel lobby's waiting gor a glimpse or chance meeting with our heroes. Or to get front row, we would camp out for like 36 hours or more to ensure we were amongst the first in line to get in.

These days we are older and we have a lot more expendable income than when we were younger and a lot more responsibilities and less time on our hands to waste time camping out or hanging around hotel lobby's.

The bands marketing people have now realised that their fan base has gotten older and richer, so to save all the hassle they give us the option of paying for certain privelages without any hassle.

Yup.They just assume most of us went corporate, and have the expendible income.

Meanwhile screw those fans who "grew up" (or not) wanting entertainment careers, so they might not be as stable..... Stability is overrated IMO.....

Theres a Southern Rock band, who offered thousand dollar seats....except I think they threw in an autographed GUITAR too....but naturally I am not really thinking about THEM.

But.....I'm almost ready to lower the tone here.....(humbly apologizing for it....)

A thousand bucks should pay for more than a hug and a handshake....*ahem!*

*giggles* I recall when certain New Jersey venues outlawed camping out to get tickets.People used to camp out a week for Bruce Springstein.....*yawn*

Now theres the whole wristband thing.Thats in Cali too.

Still here in NJ the casino high rollers get free seats reserved for them when bands play,,,,and Borgata is the most expensive place in Atlantic City to see concerts.

Especially for a nosebleed seat, I'm not gonna pay it!

And....confession time here....once in San Francisco, I "worked" for a scalper....I stood in line for Stones tickets for a broker....but basically it was being paid to party....I had no responsibilities then....*giggles*

I remember spending 90 dollars, in 1984,at a "broker" to buy one 3rd row ticket to the Van Halen tour....you know....last tour with David Lee Roth....I snuck in a Kodak Disk Camera in my boot (remember those???)....the pictures were priceless...
