Okay, Thrash Metal has their "Big Four": Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax & Megadeth. The bands that popularized the genre in the 80s. They're even teaming up to do seven shows together & one of these shows will be shown on the big screen in select movie theaters the same day as the concert.

I'm not a thrash fan... I like a few songs from Metallica and one or two from Anthrax and NONE from Megadeth or Slayer!

But I got to thinking... Which bands would make up Glams' "Big Four"? Which four bands represent glam at its best; which four bands popularized the genre in the 80s?

I say it's Motley Crue, Cinderella, Ratt & Poison.

    What do you say?

I'm going to watch the Thrash Big Four at my local cinema.

    I think for 80s Glam ...

    Motley definatley.
    Guns N Roses.
    RATT.
    Poison.

I'd say the Scorpions, but they are more hard rock. But I guess GnR are too.
And Cinderella, but they werent as big as they should have been.
Would KISS count? Even though they were around before the 80s, and during them.

They were just all so good. Its hard to choose 4!

Ok, if we're talking who was popular and most talked about, I'm gonna go with what it was like in my neck of the woods when I was in high school in the late 80's:

And the big 4 would be:

    Motley Crue
    Bon Jovi
    Poison
    Skid Row

with Cinderella running a very close 5th.

I want the 80's to last forever!

I knew GNR would be mentioned by a few people. :) But they don't consider themselves glam; I've even seen some interviews where they consider it an insult to be considered glam metal. Van Halen kind of falls in this category as well... Aerosmith, too.

Def Leppard was another one that hates being considered a "hair band". But they do think of themselves as the "Duran Duran of rock". Not a bad comparison...

Bon Jovi -- What the hell happened to them?! Chris Daughtry rocks harder than they do these days! :? If they get any softer, Coldplay will rock harder than them... :D

Doesn't the endless possibilities/combinations prove that Glam blows Thrash away?! Their "Big Four" is clear. No real debate, unless you're a thrash fan who knows ALL the bands.

We have Motley Crue, GNR, Ratt, Poison, Cinderella, Scorpions, Bon Jovi(80s), Def Leppard.(KISS is just in another league...) Fans & non-fans of glam know these bands!

One thing I'll give credit to Thrash's "Big Four" for...Is being able to put together a show like that. Doing it for the fans!

 Sadly, I don't think the glam bands would ever be able to do it. Putting aside all personal issues, dislikes for other glam acts(Motley said they'd never play with Poison). We'll have to settle for the festivals that feature the big name acts w/ lesser known acts...Better than nothing I guess.

But I'd KILL to see a concert with Ratt, Cinderella, Poison and headliners Motley Crue! These four acts were/are glam and never said/thought they were better than that. And they STILL ROCK like they did in the 80s!

Yea,I hate the fact that gnr don't think they're glam, cuz there's even some pics to prove it.I hate that shit, how bands refuse to catagorize themselves with the rest.

i think they all they there hits songs and platinum records there fore, they all played there all role in the making glam popular..and of course some bands did it better then others...for example...ratt did it better then cinderella, poison did it better then bon jovi, etc...but when push comes to shove it'd motley crue 100% because after all they're the ones that gave birth to glam metal

Motley most definintly, Guns N Roses rather they consider themselves glam or not, Poison because who the hell doesn't know who Bret Michaels is? :P , and as a personal pick Dokken even though i read somewhere they don't like being called glam either.
So for me Motley, Guns N Roses, Poison, Dokken

Motley Crue, Guns n Roses, Van Halen and Poison.
oh, and for any doubters, Guns n Roses are glam, no matter how much they disagree, they were a glam band back in their prime.

    I saw the Thrash show.
It was quite amazing,at the end they all got on stage together and played a song.
Considering some of the history between the bands, it was special.

Whether Motley Crue and Poison would do that, I don't know

I'd say for most people overall, it was Motley Crue, Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, and Poison.

For me personally, it was Van Halen, Motley Crue, Dokken, and either Bon Jovi, Ratt, or Poison.
