there are so many other good bands that i havent seen mentioned much here LIKE firehouse, tesla, britny fox, damn yankess, saigon kick, dokken, europe (unbelievably.. they do have catchier songs than the final countdown), and nazareth that id like to see more of. artists like alannah myles and lita ford were also really good.
i think they deserve some applause for making not great, but good music.
    yes? no?

So totally agree with you. Perhaps we just haven't gotten around to talking about them seeing as there already are so many things to discuss.

But you are right. The bands you mention are very good but I'm not sure too about Europe.

Lita made some good songs in The Runaways...
Otherwise(with the possible exception of Dokken...haven't heard them in years, will research), these really aren't very Glam bands...more "Pop Metal".

Edit: OK, there's a bit of Glam in there.
I just watched Breaking The Chains on YouTube, and both musically and visually it's so campy and homoerotic that it gets a few Glam points.
I kept laughing...not just at the song, but at myself when I was 12...why did I think THAT was "edgy" music?

theyre still good bands none the less. and generally, most people that ive met that listen to glam listen to these bands too just as much. just wanted to see if anyone else liked em. and by the way, pop metal is the biggest oxymoron on earth. easily.

Nazareth is poignant given the time of year.

Not really, Pop isn't a style of music so much as a structure....even Iron Man has a Pop structure...any "verse/chorus/verse" song has a pop structure.
What I meant by "pop" here was "softened and made friendly to a mass audience".
Most Glam does that to some extent, because one of the main themes of Glam is fame, but there's a lot of 80s Hair Metal bands that took that "pop sensibility" to extremes, and sacrificed both the Glam and Metal aspects of their music....if they ever had any..to make money and bang chicks.
...not that I'm against making money or banging chicks...but, you know, work on making the music a bit and get MORE of both...don't play macho and pretend you have anything to do with Glam rock..*cough*SkidRow*cough*

    I loved a Nazareth song when I was 15...
But then Def Leppard made a song of the same name and ruined it for me.

    Edit:
Damn I'm old(and have had beer)
OK, the Def Leppard song is Love Bites..but it still wrecked Love Hurts for me for years.
Love Hurts sounds pretty good tonight, really..
...but nothing to do with Glam.

    Pop culture
    Pop psychology
    Pop Music

    POP = Popular

Don't overthink it. Calling something pop can only be done after the event. The event being achieving popularity.

There's ain't no structure to it nor can it be predicted. It happens and after it does and it is popular, can then the Pop prefix be applied.

    Actually no..(but also yes)
Pop(ular) music has been around for over a hundred years now.
The structure of a Pop song has been evident almost as long. Structuring a song in that way is what makes the difference between a Pop song, like Girls Girls Girls or Love Me Do, and a non Pop song like In The Beginning or Revolution #9.
"verse/verse/chorus/verse"="A/A/B/A"= a "I/IV/V" chord progession...that's a Pop song, because the structure of the song is made in a way that is accessible to the widest audience possible.
Most Rock(all genres), Country, and modern Blues has a Pop structure.
Going beyond that, many 80s Metal bands(Glam/Hair and not) worked hard to sound "aggressive" but used a lot of production to make themselves "accessible", smoothing out the rough edges, and covering up dissonance(missing that dissonance can lend a bit of "edge")in the guitar sound.
Why? Because they wanted to be "radio friendly" and POPular.
"Pop" can be as much or more about the goal of the musician(or the writer) as the end result.

I think we'd both be hard pressed to think of any Pop songs from the last 90 years that didn't follow this structure.

I thought the Culture Club made some good music. Nobody mentions them either. They were very camp. Especially Boy George - completely "out there". LOL
    George Clinton too.

Firehouse brings back good memories. I used to nightstock at a grocery store back when they were popular. Everytime "Don't treat me bad" would come on we'd run to the backroom and crank it up. Those few customers in the store at 2am would look at us like we were nuts but you couldn't but crank up that song :)

If you could see my closet, you would think that George Clinton had raided mine. :) I have been told this more than once and its always the "normal" people that tell me so. Then I smile and nod my head to continue about my day or night. :)

Yeah I don't see mentioned the Cult, Living Colour or Ugly Kid Joe! All good bands, there are a plethora of minor glam bands that were great or only released one album. Coney Hatch, a Canadian hair metal outfit released a pretty cool album that never really saw the light in the States, I don't know if it saw the light in Britain. Or Krokus? Black n' Blue? Bango Tango? All great acts. I added three threads for these hardly known bands: The Cult, Living Colour, and Ugly Kid Joe. Broncotwerp posted a Living Colour and Cult video if you haven't experienced either band yet. I would post a Ugly Kid Joe video but my computer takes way to long and acts funny whenever I try to upload or download videos.

Yeah I totally can't wait to hear Love/Hate. My friend hasn't e mailed them to me yet but I am actually thinking about just downloading them off this site. It is a pay site but its only like a buck 50 which isn't too bad, some other bands I came across that were pretty wicked were The Hangmen but be careful to look for the 80's band not the psycobilly band by the same name, Junkyard, Steelheart, Dangerous Toys definitely check out their self titled, it is one of my favorite records in my collection and you won't be disappointed, Tigertailz, Lizzy Borden, Ugly Kid Joe's album "America's Least Wanted", Living Colour's Vivid, King's X, and Mother Love Bone's self titled, you won't be let down by any of these bands, some you won't be able to find on music sites, but there is probably mp3 sites that you can download off of, just don't do anything illegal. wink, wink.
