We all know that the seventies and eighties were a great period for glam rock and hair bands. Who was your favorite bassist from that period?

I listed the ones that came off the top of my head.
Nobody put in a vote for Jack Blades??
You could have checked off "other" if you noticed your favorite was not in the list.
You have the option of voting more than once!
    :)

Talent-wise, I would have to say Geddy Lee. One of the finest bassists in rock history, and an excellent song-writer. However, I find it hard to consider him or Rush glam at any point in their career. Going strictly by glam bands, Nikki Sixx would have my vote.

In a way, Glamster is right. The bass technique in most glam rock songs is relatively simple from a musicians perspective. Often they are overshadowed by the flashiness and skill of guitarists, drummers and vocalists. But this gave the bass players a better opportunity to run around and put on a show. And when you look at guys like Steve Priest, Gene Simmons and Nikki Sixx, those guys were outrageous!!

Of course there are exceptions where some bass players stood out technically. Like Billy Sheehan for instance...

...and Geddy Lee. That man just brings the skill of playing the bass guitar to another level. He plays the bass as if it had six strings. Just plays it...awesome! Now the secret's out...I'm a Rush fan! (hahaha)

Nikki Sixx is the pick out of that bunch. His playing is simple but he does it exceptionally well and is an integral part of the Motley sound.

Motley at low volume sounds like typical radio shit. Turn it up and turn up the bass, that's what Motley Crue is about.

When I think of bass guitarists, the first one that comes to mind is Nikki Sixx.
    So, I voted for him...

I had to vote for Gene Simmons on this one. But then I felt really bad when I saw John Deacon had no votes at all. Almost makes me wish I'd given him my vote. He deserves some votes too.

Let's see....Gene Simmons regurgitates (sp?) blood, breathes a gigantic amount of FIRE and, oh yeah, plays bass guitar! That's a winning combo for me! 8)

Sixx is just so lovable. He's not the best, but he's definately my favorite, and I couldn't imagine voting for another. Kind of feel bad for the others, still, but Nikki is my man!

I have a total thing for bass player/lyricists called Nicky (or in this case 'Nikki' :P )

    ergo....

"Personally monsieur," said Poirot, "I don't give le fuck."

You shouldn't talk to me. Find better company. There's better people to know. You'll only end up like Rimbaud. Get shot by Verlaine...
